Preparing young people for the world of work
Spark@theYards, a Forth Sector project is working with three local secondary schools – Castlebrae, Holy Rood and Portobello – to give young people aged 15 and 16 training and other skills to equip them for the world of work.
We’re looking for local employers to offer work placements for our trainees – these real experiences of the workplace are a great preparation.
What’s in it for you?
First, an extra pair of hands. You’re preparing young people for working life while getting another working on board for a fixed period of time. You can identify future employees this way and make use of this “try before you buy” route for your recruitment.
We’ll do all the administration and are completely flexible with how the placement can work – we’ll design it around what works for you. All our trainees come fully kitted with PPE (personal protective equipment) so you won’t have any costs to meet.
You’re also engaging with your local community and raising the profile of your company in a positive way – one which has a great influence on the next generation of workers and promotes opportunities in your profession.
Employer recruitment incentive may be available.
How do I know if I am eligible?
We’d be delighted to hear from any local business, large or small. We can tailor placements to suit you.
In addition to the realwork placements, the Spark@theYards programme gives career advice and training to the young people.
