The Forth Way’ is of course a play on words. For ‘Forth’ read ‘Fourth’, not the public, private or voluntary sectors but a different way of doing things, meeting social objectives by unashamedly exploiting the tools of business.

The Forth Way is also about the way we do things, professional, enterprising and supportive – the values we aspire to and the culture of the organisation.

Aims

Forth Sector exists to support people with mental health problems to recover and to take their rightful place as respected citizens contributing to society; meaningful work is an important part of this. For this reason, the organisation has chosen to provide ‘real’ work environments in ‘real’ commercially competitive businesses.

We have supported many hundreds, if not thousands of people over the years within our businesses; our aim is to support many more in future.  Forth Sector’s aims are simple:

  • To support many more people
  • To make sure that we exist in future to support them
Imperatives
  • We must create working environments in which service users and staff can flourish
  • We must create businesses which are sustainable into the long term

These two imperatives are the basis of all our plans, but their simplicity hides a complex model which seeks to meld social aims with business practice.
